Description

A full-featured 40-cell braille display and note-taker – compact, powerful, and affordable.

The Orbit Reader 40 combines the simplicity of a braille display with the productivity of a note-taker. Featuring 40 eight-dot refreshable braille cells with cursor-routing keys and a high-quality Perkins-style keyboard, it provides a fast and comfortable way to read and write in braille. Built on Orbit’s proprietary Tactuator™ technology, it offers signage-quality braille at a fraction of the cost of other 40-cell devices.

The Orbit Reader 40 works both stand-alone and connected to computers and mobile devices. In stand-alone mode, it includes a book reader, file editor, clock, calendar, and calculator. It supports reading and editing BRF, BRL, and text files and allows easy file management – users can create, rename, delete, and copy files and folders directly from the device. Onboard forward and backward translation supports more than 40 languages, and menus and prompts can be localized for different regions.

Navigation is simple and efficient – users can browse folders, insert and edit bookmarks, and scroll horizontally or vertically within documents. Switching between reader, note-taker, and braille display modes is instantaneous. Audio and haptic indicators provide clear feedback for all operations.

When connected over USB or Bluetooth, the Orbit Reader 40 serves as a powerful braille display for up to five devices at once and works seamlessly with popular screen readers on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, Fire OS, and Linux. Switching between connected devices is immediate, and navigation is precise with a 4-way arrow pad, select key, and panning rocker keys at each end of the display.

The unit includes a full-size SD card slot and a USB host port, enabling direct access to files on SD cards and USB flash drives and file transfer between them. It also supports external Bluetooth QWERTY keyboards, providing the flexibility to type in either braille or print.

Compact, rugged, and lightweight, the Orbit Reader 40 is built for portability and extended use. Its fast-charging lithium-ion battery, USB-C connectivity, and durable dust- and fluid-resistant construction make it ideal for work, study, and reading anywhere.
