More Ways to Experience Braille: Orbit Introduces the Strata and Flow Families
New piezo braille devices and multimodal systems expand the ways users experience braille
Anaheim, California – March 10, 2026 –
Orbit Research today announced two new families of braille devices – Strata and Flow – at the CSUN Assistive Technology Conference, expanding the company’s lineup of refreshable braille devices. Together, these new products broaden the ways users experience braille by introducing Orbit’s first devices based on piezo braille cells alongside the company’s established braille technology, with devices ranging from compact braille displays to multimodal systems that combine braille, speech, audio, and online services. For many years, Orbit Research has developed refreshable braille devices based on its patented Tactuator™ mechanism, used in the company’s widely adopted signage-quality TrueBraille displays. The new Strata and Flow families introduce additional braille options using piezo braille cells, expanding the range of experiences available to braille users while continuing to build on Orbit’s core braille innovations. The Strata family includes three devices designed for different ways of working with braille. Strata 40 is a 40-cell braille display that combines Orbit’s signature standalone and connected capabilities with piezo braille technology in a compact and portable device. Strata 40 Pro and Strata 20 Pro extend the Strata platform into multimodal braille systems that bring together braille, speech, audio, online services, and built-in applications in a
single device, allowing users to read, write, listen, and interact with information in multiple ways. The lineup includes the Strata 40, a 40-cell braille display; Strata 40 Pro, a multimodal 40 cell braille system; and Strata 20 Pro, a compact multimodal braille system designed for portability and everyday productivity. Orbit Research is also introducing the Orbit Flow 40, the first device in the Flow family of braille displays. Designed for seamless use with computers and mobile devices, Flow 40 is a compact 40-cell braille display with piezo braille cells, ergonomic thumb keys for navigation, and instant USB plug-and-play connectivity. It delivers a smooth and natural
braille reading experience for users who want a simple braille display for work, study, and everyday reading. For more than a decade, Orbit Research has focused on expanding access to refreshable braille through durable and affordable devices used by students, professionals, and institutions around the world. Thousands of people – including many in developing countries where refreshable braille was previously out of reach – now rely on Orbit devices
for education, employment, and daily life. The introduction of the Strata and Flow families continues that mission by expanding user choice while maintaining Orbit’s commitment to practical, accessible, and affordable braille technology. “With these new devices we are expanding the ways people experience braille,” said Venkatesh Chari, President of Orbit Research. “Braille is the foundation of literacy for blind people and a gateway to information, education, and opportunity. Different users need different tools, and our goal is to give them meaningful choices. The Strata and Flow families reflect that philosophy by offering new ways to read, write, listen, and connect
while continuing to expand access to braille technology around the world. The new Strata and Flow devices will be demonstrated at the CSUN Assistive Technology Conference and are expected to begin shipping in the second half of the year. They will be available through Orbit Research and its global distribution partners. For more information, visit www.orbitresearch.com.
